SOUL legend Geno Washington is to headline the fifth Durham Blues Festival this summer.

The American star, who made an impact in the 1960s with the live shows he performed with the Ram Jam Band had two top ten albums, Hand Clappin' Foot Stompin' Funky Butt Live and Hipsters Flipsters and Finger Poppin' Daddies.

He was the subject of Dexy's Midnight Runners’ 1980s hit single Geno.

He is now working with a backing band called the Yo Yo’s.

The festival is on Saturday, June 20, in the Gala Theatre, Durham, from 2pm to 2pm and features 12 acts on two stages

A spokesman for festival organisers Solid Entertainments said: “You only have to listen to the audience reaction to know that Geno has lost none of his magic as he and the band deliver a blistering set of Soul classics to a wild crowd who wouldn't let them off stage."
