A TEAM from Durham Cathedral is going out and about in the North-East over the coming months offering children the chance to sing with the cathedral choristers.

Members will be at St Mary’s Church, in Barnard Castle, on Saturday (February 28), with children aged six to ten are invited to come along and sing for the day.

Master of the Choristers, Dr James Lancelot, who will be leading the session said: “Singing as a chorister is a wonderful experience and at Durham Cathedral, we like to offer young people across the region the chance to savour a taste of this privileged experience.

“Children coming along on the day don’t need to have any previous experience, just a love of singing and plenty of enthusiasm.”

The free event runs from 2pm until 4.30pm and the afternoon includes a 30-minute service at 4pm, to which parents and friends are invited.

Dr Lancelot added: “This is a wonderful opportunity for children who enjoy singing and being part of a successful team, to spend time making music together with some of the most talented choristers in the country.

“It’s a fun and rewarding afternoon for all the children involved and we are looking forward to meeting new children and parents in Barnard Castle on Saturday.”

Further Come and Sing Days are being held at All Saints’ Church, Rothbury on Saturday March 14 from 2pm to 4.30pm and at Durham Cathedral on Saturday May 2 from 2pm to 6pm.
