DURHAM Cathedral has been listed in the UK’s top 100 geosites.
The 900-year-old cathedral was placed 58th in the top 100 compiled by the Geological Society of London, praised for its use of stone that expose interesting geology including Frosterley marble and black limestone containing fossil corals from the Carboniferous period.
This weekend (Saturday, October 18), specialist Brian Young will lead a walking tour of the geology of the area.
