MORE than 1,200 young people enjoyed a county’s biggest ever Scout event.

The Durham Scout County’s annual Confido camp attracted Scouts and Explorer Scouts aged ten to 18 from across the area to Moor House Adventure Centre, near West Rainton, at the weekend (October 10-12).

There were more than 50 activities on offer, including tomahawk throwing, Segway safari, night climbing, archery, backwoods cooking and a Free Drop Tower where Scouts could jump from a 10m platform into a giant airbag.

James Craig, 14, from Framwellgate, said: “I’ve taken part in some great activities and met lots of new friends across the weekend, the atmosphere has been amazing.

“My highlight was the Free Drop experience, as well as the caving experience. With so much going on, I’m shattered.”

Ian Hammond, adult volunteer event manager, said: “Confido is just like a festival, with a great atmosphere, over 50 activities for Scouts to try and brilliant evening entertainment.”
