VISITORS to Durham will be treated to a spot of Turkish delight by a troupe of local belly dancers,

Delectable Durham Divas, based at the Belmont Community Centre, will perform in the city’s Market Place tomorrow (Saturday June 15).

Metin Koyuncu, the Turkish owner market stall How Bazaar, has started selling belly dancing costumes alongside his selection of authentic Turkish mosaic lamps, handmade ceramics, jewellery and Fez hats.

He said: “We’re looking forward to bringing Turkish dancing and music to both the Market Place and the Market Hall as we launch our new belly dancing costumes. The crowds will find it hard to resist joining in.”

Stephanie Yates, of Delectable Durham Divas, said: “This Saturday, we’ll be entertaining the crowd and cheering on Metin. It’s wonderful to see belly dance wear being sold here in Durham. It will hopefully encourage more people to take up the art.”
