DEMONSTRATIONS of sheep-shearing are being given at an agricultural visitor attraction this weekend.

Hall Hill Farm, near Lanchester, has sessions at regular intervals between and Saturday and Monday, starting at 12noon.

The sheep shearing season in the UK runs from mid-May to mid-July during which time sheep are relieved of their thick fleeces in the hot weather, preventing disease and other problems.

The award-winning farm’s tourism manager Ann Darlington said: “This is a big weekend for Hall Hill Farm and sheep shearing is always very popular with our visitors, young and old.

“We first opened the farm gates for visitors to see our lambs over 35 years ago and they continue to play a very important role for us from lambing time onwards.

“Sheep shearing has been a vital part of the UK wool industry for thousands of years and is fascinating to watch.

“It is an important part of the visitor experience here at Hall Hill Farm to inform and educate people about the animals, as well as providing an excellent fun-packed family day out.”
