POLICE patrols have been stepped up in Consett town centre after what officers describe as a significant increase in reports of damage to cars.
Since October, nine cars have been damaged by scratching the side of the car and in some cases snapping off windscreen wipers.
Incidents are concentrated in the Gladstone Gardens and Gladstone Street area.
Anyone with information about who is responsible is asked to ring Consett Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
Police say increased patrols will continue over the holiday period.
