A TEENAGER has been seriously injured after she was hit by a vehicle last night.

The 16-year-old pedestrian was crossing the A692 at Villa Real roundabout, Consett, at about 8.45pm when a Citroen Berlingo collided with her.

The victim, from Consett, was taken by paramedics to the RVI in Newcastle with a leg injury which is not life-threatening.

The Berlingo driver, a 29-year-old Stanley man, was uninjured as was his passenger, a 32-year-old man, also from Stanley.

It is believed the Berlingo was travelling southbound on the A691 and negotiated the Villa Real roundabout, intending to continue southeast on the A692 towards Stanley, when it collided with the teenager who was crossing the road from south west to north east.

The A692 was closed between 8.48pm and 11pm.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the vehicle shortly before it occurred is asked to contact the collision investigation direct on 0191-375-2159, or the roads policing unit on 101.
