A COMMUNTY theatre group in north Durham is preparing for its latest show.

Consett YMCA's Act On Youth Theatre is performing ‘Into the Woods’ at the town’s Empire Theatre.

Philip Richardson and Elaine Robertson star as the baker and his wife, with Lennox and Luke Henderson playing Jack and Hayley and Emily Parker sharing the role of the witch.

The show has been produced and directed by Mollie McIver and Rebecca Davis, who are both 19 and from Consett.

Miss McIver said: “A lot of work has gone into it. It is the dark side of fairytales and it is quite a magical show.”

Rehearsals for the production started in November.

Miss McIver added: “It is a musical with singing and dancing and is both funny and sad, a mixture of everything. The young people taking part are really talented and it should be a fantastic night out. It will be well worth it.”

In recent years the group has also staged The Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables.

Into the Woods runs from June 23-26 and starts at 7pm.

Tickets cost £10, two for £15 on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, can be booked by calling 01207-218171.
