FIVE men have been arrested following a police drugs raid today (Friday, May 1).
Officers swooped at a house in Consett, County Durham, and arrested three men, aged 35, 42 and 49.
Meanwhile, traffic police stopped a Citroen Xsara Picasso on Front Street, Leadgate, at about noon and arrested the driver and passenger, both men, aged 32 and 43.
All are from the Consett area and were arrested on suspicion of supplying a class A drug.
Specialist teams searched throughout the afternoon with sniffer dogs, leading to a “significant amount” of heroin and cash being seized.
Detective Sergeant Mel Sutherland, who led the operation, said: “Two clear messages should be taken from today’s action: firstly, we will not tolerate those suspected of being involves in the distribution and supply of class A drugs and will take robust action.
“Secondly, we will listen to our communities and take action where necessary.”
To report suspected drug dealing, call the police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
