BUILDING society staff scaled the height of Everest on a step machine to raise money for charity.
A team from the Consett branch of the Newcastle Building Society took part in an attempt to climb the equivalent of 8,848 metres alongside colleagues from 13 other offices.
The Consett team on its own managed 14,800 steps during the day, a quarter of the height of Everest, helping the joint effort to comfortably reach its target.
Money raised by the Consett branch will go to support Willow Burn Hospice at nearby Lanchester.
Branch manager Rachael Benford said: “This was a big challenge for us to take on, but we were all inspired by the cause we've been supporting and it helped us go way past the heights we'd expected to reach."
