A CAMPAIGN to raise awareness of how ‘One Punch Can Kill’ is being rolled out across pubs in north Durham.
The life-saving message is being spread through the bars of Chester-le-Street over the next few weeks.
Thousands of promotional beermats have been provided to the licensed premises by Chester-le-Street Area Action Partnership.
The move follows an incident in the town earlier this year, in which a 54-year-old man suffered a serious head injury after an assault by a teenager.
It also forms part of the ongoing ‘One Punch Can Kill’ campaign spearheaded by Maxine Thompson-Curl and her husband, Tony.
Mrs Thompson-Curl’s son, Kristian, lost his life in 2011 following an assault in a nightclub in Consett when he was 18.
She said: “No family should have to go through what I have been through.
“Kristian is my drive, my passion is to raise awareness of what can happen from a single punch. So many lives can be ruined.
“There is so much talk about weapons, but the most dangerous weapons can be the fist at the end of your arm.”
