A LITTLE girl with a big heart has raised over £800 for charity by completing a triathlon.
Eight-year-old Maddi Mulholland, from Chester-le-Street did a three mile bike ride, two mile run and a one mile swim.
The Newker Primary School pupil did the challenge for Sport Relief in her home town earlier this month.
Maddi would like the money to be used to buy mosquito nets to protect children in Africa from the risk of malaria.
Proud mother Kelly Mulholland said: “After watching Comic Relief for the last few years Maddi really wanted to help. She kept saying if I raise £100 it will buy 20 mosquito nets to help those children. She has previously done a similar challenge when she was six but increased the distances to make it more challenging.
“She is in no way athletic but she is a very gutsy girl with a big heart.”
