A TRADITIONAL North-East Christmas is on offer to visitors at Beamish Museum.

Decorations from a bygone era have been put up at 1820s Pockerley, the Edwardian pit village and the 1940s farm.

Father Christmas’ enchanting fireside Grotto is open every day until Christmas Eve at Pockerley Waggonway and visitors can feed his reindeer.

There is also ice skating, fairground rides and stalls at the Frost Fair.

Julie Wilson, spokesman for Beamish Museum, near Chester-le-Street, County Durham, said: “At Beamish, Christmas past comes to life and visitors can experience the magical sights, sounds and delicious tastes of our traditional festive celebrations.

“At our new Frost Fair, you can enjoy a spin on the ice rink, a ride on the steam Gallopers and shuggy boats, and browse the stalls.

“Come and join in the festivities. Merry Christmas from everyone at Beamish.”

After Christmas, there are also traditional Twelfth Night celebrations, with music, dance, food and first footing, at Pockerley Old Hall from December 26 to January 3.

The museum is closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
