A WOMAN battling breast cancer is taking part in a sponsored dog walk in memory of her sister-in-law.
Sharon Taylor will walk her Jack Russell Ollie in the Paws For A Cause event taking place in Riverside Park, Chester-le-Street, on October 11.
The annual dog walk raises funds for St Cuthbert’s Hospice, Durham, which cared for her sister-in-law Helen Taylor in her final days.
Sharon and Ollie will be walking with her parents Billy and Anne and her brother John, as they remember 45-year-old Helen, from Consett, who spent several weeks at the hospice before her death in July.
Sharon said: “Helen and I were diagnosed with cancer in March 2014 and she was very supportive towards me.
“My brave, inspirational sister-in-law was a great support as we fought our cancer journey together. She was a gorgeous young woman - full of fun and really bubbly.”
The Paws for a Cause event, takes place on Helen’s birthday weekend.
Sharon said: “The staff at the hospice are a very dedicated team.
“They not only cared and supported Helen but they did so for the whole of the family. Being in the hospice allowed us to have a few, last happy memories with Helen.
“We cannot praise the staff enough.”
She added: “I am really looking forward to a good day out – we all are. We want to give something back.”
