A FEATURE film shot in the North-East will have its European premiere on Saturday.

Estranged, a twisted psychological drama, is to be screened during Film4’s FrightFest in London’s West End.

It was shot mostly at Lambton Castle, near Chester-le-Street in County Durham using local crew, and is a tale of family secrets, deception and cultish crimes. The team behind the film includes executive producer Steven Schneider, best known for producing the Insidious and Paranormal Activity franchises.

Fans of the horror genre will also recognise North-East actor Craig Conway, who stars in the film alongside James Cosmo (Braveheart, Troy), Amy Manson (Being Human, Outcasts) and James Lance (Bronson).

Mr Conway, who co-produced the film, said: “Estranged was an amazing opportunity for cast and crew from the North-East to be part of a truly chilling movie. It will have people on the edge of their seats until the final credits.”

The film was made using funding from the North-East Creative Content Fund, which is managed by regional investment firm Northstar Ventures.

Audiences will be able to watch Estranged online, as it is being distributed by Icon Film Distribution as part of FrightFest Presents.
