SCHOOL pupils have written and recorded a charity single exploring issues of mental health.

Youngsters at Park View School in Chester-le-Street, County Durham created the moving ballad Whatever the Weather as part of the school’s annual enrichment week this week.

Pupils wrote the lyrics, composed the music, recorded the song in the school studio, created an accompanying music video to put on the You Tube website and promoted the single.

Today (Friday, July 17) they performed it around the school. Around 15 pupils in years nine and ten were involved in all.

Nicole Goulding, 15, who sang on the track, chose the charity to benefit and helped promote the song, said she had enjoyed the week and learned a lot.

The song explores issues of mental health, with the chorus: “Just hold on, it’ll get better. It’s a storm now, but we’ll get through this together.”

It can be downloaded for £1 to raise money for the African Mental Health Foundation from bandcamp.com, by searching for Whatever the Weather.

The initiative has so far raised £58 for the cause.
