AN elderly pedestrian, who was hit by a car as she crossed the road, has died in hospital.
Doreen Campbell suffered head injuries in the accident in Sacriston, near Chester-le-Street on Wednesday morning.
The 77-year-old, who lived in Sacriston, was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle in a critical condition, but sadly died at the weekend.
The accident happened at about 11.40am as she crossed Front Street, outside the town’s Tesco store.
Police believe the accident happened as a Renault Clio was pulling out of a side junction to turn into Front Street as Mrs Campbell was crossing and collided with her in the middle of the road.
The driver, a 22-year-old local man, was uninjured, as was his passenger, a 20-year-old local woman.
