POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an attempted knifepoint robbery on the main road through a village.
A man carrying a knife got out of a dark-coloured Renault Clio car and approached a taxi driver, in a white Ford Galaxy vehicle, in Bournmoor, near Chester-le-Street.
The suspect, of Asian appearance, brandished the knife and unsuccessfully demanded money from the driver.
Anyone who saw the incident, near a roundabout on the A1052, at about 11.10pm, on Thursday (January 15), is asked to contact Durham Police, on the non-emergency 101 number.
They are asked to quote the crime reference number WG1500090.
