A MOTHER is taking the plunge and swimming the one smallest lake in the Lake District for charity.

Social worker Cayherine Roberts, 36, of Chester-le-Street, will do the Grasmere Channel Swim in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust on Saturday July 7.

Swimmers can choose to swim 1k or 2k from Banerigg landing stage to the far shore, and back if doing the 2k.

Ms Roberts decided to raise money for the CF Trust because her five year old son Ethan has the life-limiting condition.

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is one of the UK's most common, life-threatening inherited diseases and claims two lives a week.

Ms Robertssaid: "I used be very sporty but after having Ethan I've not kept up with my exercise regime.

"Ethan was the first baby in the North -East to be diagnosed with Guthrie Test. Having a little boy with CF has pushed me back into to exercise so that I can be a good example to Ethan.

"Exercise is so important for people with CF as it helps to keep their lungs clear. I am hoping to raise hundreds of pounds for the CF Trust."

Ms Roberts has an online page to get sponsorship www.virginmoneygiving.com/catherineroberts18 The money raised will help the Trust to fund vital research.
