POLICE are investigating a spate of break-ins at stables in east Durham.

A police spokesman said equestrian and golfing equipment were among the items stolen from Edenwell Equestrian Centre at Castle Eden between 9pm on Tuesday and 8am the following day The items include three saddles: a brown 17-inch Barnsby brand; a brown synthetic Wintec and a tan Crosby.

Two air rifles, a BSA and a Crossman Dusk were also stolen, as well as a full set of Ping G2 golf clubs, a full set of Callaway X22 golf clubs and individual clubs bearing the Cobra x-speed brand. Waterproof clothing and a Mio satellite navigation system were also taken.

Saddles, wheelbarrows and several bridles were stolen from stables at Saddleback Cottage, Cold Hesleden overnight on Friday, February 17.

A Rhinegold child’s saddle and two old-English saddles were stolen from stables at Lambs Close, Hutton Henry between 6pm on Tuesday, February 21 and 10.30am the following day.

PC Andrea Wearmouth, based at Peterlee, said: "In each case entry to the premises was forced.

"The majority of items stolen are identifiable and I would urge anyone who thinks they have been offered any of them for sale, or has information regarding their whereabouts, or the people responsible, to contact us."
