ONE man suffered a suspected broken arm and another suffered minor head injuries during a fight between a large group armed with baseball bats.

Trouble flared in Consett County Durham involving a large group of people on Monday evening.

A Ford Focus and Chrysler Neon were damaged during the incident and a house window on Dorset Crescent was broken.

Police first received reports of youths causing problems at around 9.15pm in the areas of Moorside, namely Rutland Road, Derby Crescent and Surrey Crescent.

Further calls were then made at around 11.30pm after another disturbance was reported in Thornfield Road.

A 42-year-old man was taken were the University Hospital of North Durham with a suspected broken arm a 21-year-old man was taken to hospital with a minor head injury.

PC Steven Kerr investigating the disturbance said: "It’s vital that we try to establish what went on here. So far our enquiries have been met with silence from some members of the local community.

"Residents must be reassured that any information they provide to the police will be treated with confidence and confidentiality."

Officers have carried out enquiries in the area and are asking the pubic to assist with the investigation.

Four men aged 20, 21, 24 and 40 have been arrested in connection with the incident, enquiries are still on-going.
