A CAMPAIGNER’S fight for better hospice and care services has won the backing of his MP.

Stafford Scholes, who has campaigned for care improvements for many years, visited Parliament to attend a meeting of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Hospice and Palliative Care.

Mr Scholes, who has battled prostate cancer, pressed MPs to co-ordinate hospice and palliative care provision across the country.

He received the backing of Roberta Blackman-Woods, Labour MP for Durham City.

Dr Blackman-Woods said: "I was delighted to support the excellent work Stafford is doing.

"He has been a committed and tireless campaigner on the future of hospice and palliative care as well as many other social care and health issues in Durham and nationally.

"It was a pleasure to welcome him to Parliament as he made the case to MPs and service providers."

Mr Scholes has set up the North Durham Prostate Cancer Support Group to help men with the condition and their families.
