A CHARITY swimathon has raised £8,000 for a range of good causes.

The Rotary Club of Durham and Freeman’s Quay 2010 swimathon was held at the Durham city centre leisure complex on November 20 and 21.

The total raised was split between the chosen charities of Councillor Mamie Simmons, the Mayor of Durham: Diabetes UK and St Cuthbert’s Hospice, Invalid Children’s Aid Association (Durham County), Charlie Bare for Cancer Care appeal and others.

The cheques were handed over at a presentation evening held at Durham Town Hall on Tuesday, March 29.

Derek Hall, chairman of the Rotary Club’s fund-raising committee, thank everyone for their efforts.

Coun Simmons thanked all involved for their hard work and said she hoped 2011’s swimathon, scheduled for November 19 and 20, would be as successful.
