AN ORCHESTRA will bring the soundtrack of the silver screen to a theatre venue later this month.

The Soundpower Orchestra and Singers are to perform A Night At The Movies at The Gala Theatre, in Durham City, on Thursday, October 15.

The newly-formed professional orchestra is based at the Customs House, in South Shields, and features 35 of the North-East’s most talented freelance musicians, who perform selections including TV themes and the film music of John Williams.

Soundpower’s music director is local composer and conductor, George Hastings, who, with his creative partner and former Dr Who actor Colin Baker, heads the media production company, Songs ‘n’ Stuff.

He has previously worked as music director with the BBC, The Bolshoi Ballet, Wayne Sleep, Ant and Dec and Bob Monkhouse.

The curtain goes up at 7:30pm and tickets, priced £12 or £10 for concessions, are available from the Gala box office on 0191 332 4041.
