A HIT-AND-RUN crash involving five cars on Thursday night is under investigation.
Emergency services were called to Lead Road in Greenside, Tyne and Wear at around 6.30pm.
The accident happened near to The White Swan pub and one of the drivers fled the scene.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At around 6.39pm on August 16, officers received a report of a five-vehicle collision in Lead Road, Greenside.
"Emergency services attended and it is believed no-one was seriously injured in the collision but one driver, abandoned his vehicle at the scene and left on foot before officers arrived.
"Inquiries into the incident, and to identify the driver who left the scene, are ongoing."
Paramedics treated one person on the scene.
The road was closed for around three hours while debris was cleared removed from the carriageway.
A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 6.33pm to Lead Road outside the White Swan to reports of a road traffic collision.
“We attended with one crew and treated one patient on scene.”
