PRIMARY school children have written their own Christmas carol.
The lyrics for Sing For Joy have been penned by pupils from Consett Junior School and the music has been composed by international musician Sandy Smith, from Holmfirth in Yorkshire.
Youngsters have been rehearsing the song with fellow pupils who play with Consett Junior Brass, conducted by teacher David Jackson.
The children are performing it as part of a show on Thursday at the Salvation Army Hall in the morning and Consett Methodist Church in the afternoon.
Mr Jackson said: “Parents of the children who wrote the carol will be delighted and the rest will certainly enjoy the enthusiasm of the singing.”
Children will also be visiting care home in the town to perform for residents.
Teacher Rebecca Waters said: “It is really good, and the kids have liked learning the words because it is theirs. Is important that the children do things that are memorable.
“This is something which will stick with them for the rest of their lives.”
