A PLANNING application has been submitted to knock down a five bedroom house and replace it with five new family homes on land next to a popular secondary school.
Bright Ideas Development has submitted the application to build the new houses on land off Newcastle Road, in the Crossgate Moor area of Durham city.
They would be immediately next to Durham Johnston School and would each have three or four bedrooms.
They would be on the site of Garden Villa, a five-bedroom property with a garden, which backs onto Neville Terrace.
The houses would be built in a modern style, with a white rendered finish and timber boarding.
A statement by the applicants says: “The site is located directly next to Durham Johnston secondary school, one of the most sought-after schools within Durham.
“As such, three and four bed family houses of a size suitable for growing families, and/or those with teenagers are in high demand. The addition of five houses on this site would help to meet the need for family homes within the area.”
