FOOTBALL rivals will unite for an eve-of-season charity race day.

Newcastle Racecourse is to hold a special football-themed race day on Friday, August 12 to raise funds for Sunderland AFC’s community charity the Foundation of Light and the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.

BBC Radio Newcastle will broadcast its popular Total Sport programme live from the event, with experts weighing in with their predictions for Newcastle and Sunderland’s forthcoming campaigns.

Racegoers will have the chance to put their questions directly to guests representing both clubs and take part in a range of games and activities.

Last year’s Race Day held between the two charities raised more than £10,000.

Jemma Garrett, from the Foundation of Light, said: “Our Race day is one of the high points of our fundraising calendar and we’re really excited to return to Newcastle Racecourse and see the new track first hand.”

Lady Elsie Robson added: “We’re very grateful to the Foundation of Light for involving us in this race day once again. I’ve really enjoyed the occasion in previous years, even though I haven’t always been successful with my bets.”

Tickets, priced £100 per person which includes a three-course meal, are available on 0191-5515153 or events@foundationoflight.co.uk
