A GIANT pumpkin and a 22ft scarecrow are among the spooky additions to a North-East visitor attraction.

Visitors to Hall Hill Farm, near Lanchester, will have seen them after they ‘appeared’ alongside animals over the weekend.

Extra Halloween themed activities have been organised during the half term week, including scarecrow making, carving a pumpkin lantern, face-painting and a puppet show.

Tourism manager Ann Darlington said: “It’s great that we can extend the tourism season through to autumn and half term gives us an opportunity to do something just a little bit different.

“Our pumpkins are always popular but this year there are some giant surprises around the farm for visitors to explore and with 400 pumpkins ready to be carved into lanterns we are ready for Halloween and half term.”

The farm attraction has also just been informed that it has been shortlisted in the 2014 North-East Tourism Awards for best tourism experience.

Mrs Darlington said: “We are also thrilled to be shortlisted once again for a North-East tourism award.

“We have many returning visitors as well as new ones and it is a real testament to our staff that we keep being nominated.”
