A CANCER charity has thanked the people of Chester-le-Street for raising money for its work.
The town’s branch of the Leeds Building Society raised £750 for Macmillan Cancer Support as part of a national fundraising drive.
The office, in Front Street, sold pin badges for a suggested donation of £1, along with 64 other branches .
Customers had three separate designs to choose from - dogs, boots and the Macmillan logo.
Clara White, Fundraising Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “We are so delighted to have the continued support of Leeds Building Society.
“Their recent £750 donation raised from the sale of our pin badges was very welcome, and will help us reach even more people that need our support.
“By purchasing our pin badges, people in Chester-le-Street have been helping the 910 people who will be hit by the devastating news today that they have cancer.”
Branch manager Coleen Davie said: “It’s great news that we have continued our long standing and successful relationship with Macmillan Cancer Support.
“We are pleased that the pin badges, with three separate designs to choose from, proved popular with our customers in Chester-le-Street earlier this summer.”
