A YOUTH project has recruited two apprentices to help with its work.
The Activity Den, at Tanfield Lea, near Stanley, provides activities for children and young people including The Woodcraft Folk, Rock the Den – a music project - and, three youth clubs.
It also offers volunteering roles to more than 50 people.
Rebecca Webb, 21, and Mark Proudlock, 23, began working for The Activity Den in September as apprentices.
They support the volunteers running the young people’s groups, help publicise the project and are studying for a Level 2 in Business Administration at New College Durham.
The apprentices have been funded through the Learning Working Earning scheme, a new scheme this year, set up to enable people in County Durham and Darlington to overcome financial obstacles that prevent them from accessing employment.
Sarah McGovern, Chair of The Activity Den said: “We are so pleased to have been able to employ two apprentices especially at this time when unemployment is on the rise. “It is also great to have increased capacity at a time when The Den is really taking off.”
