CREW from a county’s adopted warship were presented with a cuddly reminder of their most recent visit.

Captain Alex Burton, commanding officer of Royal Navy flagship HMS Bulwark, was presented with a teddy bear named Prince Bishop at the close of his ship’s visit to County Durham, its adopted county, earlier this month.

Crew plan to photograph the ‘memory bear’ wherever they travel around the globe and send the images to Durham Trinity School, to aid geography and history classes.

The bear was created by Cassop Vale Bears and presented to Capt Burton by Durham County Council chairman Dennis Morgan and Durham Trinity School headteacher Julie Connelly.

HMS Bulwark visited the North-East from Monday, October 31, until Friday, November 4. Crew hosted a series of functions, visited organisations across County Durham and staged a Freedom Parade through Durham City.
