A MUSICIAN who gives a big airing to the North-East’s small pipes will be playing to an intimate pub audience in the region next week.

Northumbrian small pipe aficionado Keith Davidson has taken regional folk music to a global audience.

But the Honorary Piper to Northumbria University will be performing nearer to home ground when he is guest artist of Durham City Folk Club, on Thursday January 27.

Mr Davidson has been playing the pipes for more than 40 years and his expertise has been recognised at festivals throughout Britain, the rest of Europe, Russia, China, and the USA.

His personal small pipes were specially made, including a 17-keyed chanter with a range of two octaves.

He will perform a selection of his music at the Tap and Spile, in Front Street, Framwellgate Moor, Durham, from 8.30pm.
