A PLANNING meeting in Darlington that had to be postponed due to the number of protestors attending is set to go ahead on Wednesday (February 17).

Dozens of people attended the meeting on February 3 expecting to hear Darlington Council’s planning committee make a decision over whether to allow hundreds of new homes to be built in Middleton St George.

However, the number of attendees – some of whom bore protest banners – meant it was impossible to hold the meeting in the relatively small council committee room.

The meeting was rearranged for this Wednesday in the Dolphin Centre’s Central Hall from 1.30pm.

Ward councillor Doris Jones praised those who attended the last meeting and it is expected that concerned residents will again turn out in force.

Cllr Jones and many Middleton St George residents feel that the village is shouldering an unfair burden of new housing developments within Darlington borough.
