Darlington head to league leaders Crawley on Saturday with manager Mark Cooper expecting to field another experimental line-up.

Tuesday's win at Grimsby Town saw Cooper make four personnel changes and ditch the midfield diamond formation that has worked so well in the last few months.

After taking only one point from two home games last week, and with Marc Bridge-Wilkinson injured, Cooper switched to 3-5-2.

The change saw recalls for Greg Taylor, Adam Quinn, John McReady and John Campbell, none of whom had played more than ten games for Quakers this season prior to Tuesday.

The moved paid off and the manager is likely to stick with the fringe players at top-of-the-table Crawley.

"With us missing Marc Bridge-Wilkinson I didn't feel as though we could play the diamond formation without him," said Cooper.

"So we had a look at one or two things and in the next few games we'll continue to do that.

"We looked pretty solid at the back on Tuesday. The players defended very resolutely in the second half.

"We started pretty well, created a few chances then got a goal and had to defend an awfully lot of long balls, throw-ins and free-kicks. In the second half we were a lot better at that than we were in the first half.

"I know Grimsby were decimated with injuries to defensive players, but they still have good players so we knew that at some point in the game they would cause us problems."

Bridge-Wilkinson is expected to shake off a thigh problem before Saturday while Aman Verma sustained a slight strain on Tuesday that caused him to be replaced midway through the second half.
