TABLE football enthusiasts from across the UK descended on the region at the weekend as it hosted its first international foosball tournament.
Star of the event at Darlington’s Coachman Hotel was Garlando World Champion Rob Atha, who was joined by 25 other leading international players.
Amateurs played the stars of foosball in the open section of the event and there were categories for novice, professional, junior and senior doubles, as well as an event for under-11s.
Martin Landers, 43, from Darlington, whose company Tomahawk Table Football has foosball tables in several venues in the town, organised the event on behalf of the British Foosball Association (BFA).
“It was spectacular,” he said.
“Rob Atha was outstanding.
He played the best pair in Darlington and they got one goal against him in three games. We are now hoping to make it an annual event.”
The three-day event was opened by the town’s MP, Jenny Chapman
