A BUSINESSMAN is planning to erect a memorial plaque to remember a man who was murdered six years ago.

Steve Hunter hopes to erect the plaque outside his new business premises but wants prior permission from Lee Walker's family.

Script writing university student Mr Walker, 22, of Cockerton was killed in March 2004 after he was attacked outside Bar Size, in Skinnergate, Darlington.

Every year his family place flowers at the scene to remember Mr Walker, who received serious head injuries in the attack.

Hairdresser Mr Hunter, who owns Yaeger, has recently moved to new premises on Skinnergate.

He felt it could be an appropriate gesture to erect a permanent plaque in memory of Mr Walker.

He said: "We have been here for four months now and I thought it would be nice to have a permanent reminder here.

"His parents put flowers out every year and that is lovely. But we wondered if they wanted to support a permanent reminder."

Mr Hunter can be contacted on 01325-255055 or in the shop.
