FAMILIES of disabled children are being urged to apply for a grant.
The inclusive opportunities fund is available to help disabled children access mainstream play, leisure and out-of-school activities, and could be used to pay for a support worker, specialist equipment or staff training.
The fund is a multi-agency budget that has been provided by Darlington Children's Fund, Darlington Borough Council children's services department and Darlington Primary Care Trust.
Suzanne Kay, a parent who has used the fund recently, said: "Applying to the fund, which was straightforward, has enabled my disabled daughter to attend a holiday activity club along with her sister."
Paula Akers, of Darlington children's fund and chairwoman of the inclusive leisure panel, said: "It is important that disabled children and young people in Darlington have the same opportunity to access play and leisure settings as their peers.
"The setting up of the inclusive opportunities fund in Darlington shows a real commitment of working towards inclusion from all of the relevant agencies."
