PUPILS at a Darlington school are celebrating after picking up a national award.
St Augustine's School, in Beechwood Avenue, has been awarded the gold level Artsmark from the National Arts Council for its work promoting arts to its pupils.
The school has been working towards the award for two years, by hosting lessons in dance, drama, music, art and craft.
Artists have visited to work with the pupils in subjects including music therapy and origami.
Headteacher Catherine Crawford, the school's arts co-ordinator Susan Redmond and two pupils will attend a ceremony in in July to collect the award.
Mrs Crawford said: "I am delighted that the school has received this award. It is a fitting tribute to the hard work and dedication of both the staff and pupils in all their artistic endeavours."
The school worked closely with Bonnie Davies at Darlington Council's Art Centre to put together their application for the Artsmark award.
