NEW Darlington boss Colin Todd said managing Darlington as they came out of administration would be the biggest challenge of his career.

Todd said Darlington was in a much worse state than when he took over during Bradford City's second period in administration in 2004.

"I think it's tougher than that because there is going to be less players," he said.

"At Bradford we didn't have that many when I started but obviously here I'm only left with seven on contract.

"But my experience in dealing with a club coming out of administration should put me in good stead. I know what the budget is and will just have to adhere to what the chairman has given me.

"I'll have to work the oracle as I did at Bradford.

"I'll probably look to bring in four long-term loans and have a squad of about 18 with two goalkeepers.

"There's a lot of work to be done but as long as I can get 15 out for the start of the season it will be fine.

"Supporters are going to have to realise that things won't happen overnight. It's going to take time but the main thing is that we will be upbeat and positive."

Dean Windass has been mentioned for a player-coach role but Todd played it down.

"Deano is a name that I've touted around but I'm just going to be patient on that for the moment.

"It's probably the biggest challenge I've had to face but one that excites me. A lot of people wouldn't have taken the job but I just love the environment of football management and working with players."
