A PILATES instructor has been given a senior regional role in a international pilates organisation.

Angie Stirland, who is regional pilates coordinator for Bannatyne's North-East health clubs, been appointed as one of only seven UK regional student support teachers for not-for-profit international training organisation Body Control Pilates.

The 37-year-old, who has taken a leading role in running Bannatyne’s newly-opened specialist pilates studio in Darlington, will work with and mentor those studying to become pilates instructors.

She will be responsible for carrying out the students' initial practical assessments and provide workshops for the students to practice their teaching skills and develop their knowledge.

Ms Stirland, who has been a pilates professional for ten years, also teaches up to 16 classes each week.

Ms Stirland, from Guisborough, said: "It is a great honour to be asked to come onboard by Body Control and I am delighted to offer my time and expertise to help other students learn more about the benefits and methods of pilates.

"Since the new pilates studio has been opened, it's proven very popular with people across the region and I'm delighted that the wider benefits of pilates have really come to the fore."
