DARLINGTON manager Dave Penney last night confirmed that departing winger Seb Carole was unhappy at not being treated as first-choice in Quakers’ line-up.

The Frenchman is hoping to earn a deal with Huddersfield Town, where he is on trial, after leaving Quakers, where he signed a short-term deal in late November.

The 26-year-old made seven appearances but, with Franz Burgmeier and Rob Purdie also competing for wide positions, was made to fight for his place.

Three of his outings came as a substitute and Penney admitted Carole was not satisfied when on bench duty.

“Seb’s contract was up at the end of the month and we hadn’t decided what we wanted to do with him,” said Penney who takes his side to play at fellow promotion-chasers Shrewsbury Town tomorrow.

“I don’t think he was happy being a substitute which was understandable because neither was I when I was playing, plus he has played for some big clubs in his time.

“Seb got an opportunity to play for a club in a higher division.

He’s on trial there and good luck to him.

“We’d have been happy for him to stay until the end of the month and see how he got on in the three games we have in that time.

“He’s now got a chance at a higher level, whether he get a contract only time will tell.”

Penney still has wingers Adam Griffin and David Poole at his disposal, but neither have been close to the first 16 for some time and the manager remains keen to add to his squad before the end of the transfer window.

A striker followed Carole out of the exit door yesterday, as youngster Jason Bradley’s contract was terminated.

The 19-year-old signed last summer from Sheffield Wednesday and spent time on loan at Buxton and Blyth.

But he was unable to break into the first-team and last week Penny signed Danny Carlton from Carlisle.

The loan striker will be in the squad that plays at ninthplaced Shrewsbury tomorrow, but is likely to be on the bench as Penney wants to stick with the XI that beat Luton last week.

Although there are slight concerns over Liam Hatch and Franz Burgmeier, who both limped off in the 5-1 win, both are likely to play tomorrow.

Darlington’s game at Accrington, which was postponed on Tuesday, has been rearranged for Tuesday, March 24 (7.45pm).

It will come between a home game with Aldershot and a trip to Barnet.
