TEENAGE students are combining part of their media course with contributions to a youth service website.

Pupils at Hummersknott School are using the rE-view website as part of their regular media lessons.

The project encourages youngsters to upload reviews or opinion pieces to the website and ask other people to add their own comments.

Youth workers visit schools and other organisations to urge children to become members.

Contributors gain video and media training and are invited to join out-of-school events and clubs.

On Mondays there is a rE-view drop-in session at Longfield School's after-school club and once a fortnight a drop-in-session is held at Eastbourne Church of England Academy.

Every Thursday, between noon and 2pm, students at Darlington College can join the project. Lunchtime drop-in-sessions are also held at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College.

Weekly sessions are also held at Branksome and Hurworth Schools.

Other sessions are held on Saturday mornings around the town centre to give young people who may not have access to a computer at home the chance to get involved.

Councillor Chris McEwan, cabinet member for children and young people, said: "RE-view has been a real success and is attracting young people from across the borough to share their views and to get involved in a range of activities and events."
