A LOCAL football club is looking for new players and teams following their success in the last season.

Heighington AFC has enjoyed a triumph across all its age groups after some of the younger teams won their respective tournaments in the last season, including the under 7s winning their league and the adult team winning their league and cup.

The club is now seeking new players to join their success as they move up to under 8, 9, 13, 14 and adult squads ready for the beginning of the 2018/19 season.

Dave Brassell, chairman of Heighington AFC, said he was delighted at the current progress of the club.

He said: “This is my second year as a very proud chairman and I also manage the adults team.

“We are doing quite well as a club from where we were to where we are now. I’m proud of where we are and what we’re doing.”

For the youngster's teams, the club is looking for new players who have never played football and want to learn as well as aspiring young players who perhaps want to change clubs.

They are also looking to share their training facilities with any existing teams in the surrounding area who want to join the club and make the most of its grounds.

Mr Brassell said: “We have got a good little set up. We have all done our coaching courses, first aid, and the necessary qualifications. We have got shower facilities and even bought our own lawn mower to keep the grounds ready.

"The aim is the keep the teams that we have got and we need players of good teams to come on board and join us.

“We are putting that much time and effort in this club and we want to see it bigger and better. We just want to see the kids play.”

Although at the moment the club is mostly dominated by boys and only a handful of girl players, Mr Brassell has been working to see the teams become mixed in the hope that it will encourage aspiring female footballers to show up and play.

He added: “We are trying to encourage the kids to come in and play. If we could someday have a girls team that would be fantastic.

“It’s a nice little club, we are all really friendly. Now is the best time to join because all the games have finished.”

For the adults team, Heighington AFC is planning to hold training sessions to scout out experienced players who want to build up on their skills.

The club meets twice a week for matches and training. Any adult, youngster or team who wants to join the club can call Dave Brassell on 07870777779 or email david.brassell@hotmail.co.uk
