A BUSINESS has pledged its support the homeless with a year of fundraising events in aid of a local charity.

Darlington Credit Union has nominated First Stop Darlington as its inaugural Charity of the Year.

The credit union's staff will organise a number of events over the next 12 months including payroll giving, cake stalls and static bike rides with proceeds being donated to the charity, which helps the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless.

Chief Executive, Tony Brockley said, “We are delighted to have chosen our first ever charity to support. The team at First Stop undertake incredible work and we already have a great working relationship with some of their clients.

To be able to raise money as a team and donate it to such a wonderful and deserving charity, will provide us with a great sense of achievement over the next year and we hope we can raise a lot of money.”

Tracy Freeman, First Stop CEO said, ‘We were thrilled to be told that we were the credit union’s first ever Charity of the Year. We have worked closely together for a number of years and any money raised will make a big difference to us.’
