A TRADITIONAL autumnal celebration will see retirees brought together under one roof as staff and homeowners of retirement apartments invite other residents to join them.

A harvest festival-inspired Harvest Supper Club will be hosted at Emerson Court, in Darlington, today, with a professional chef set to serve up a demonstration and tasters of seasonal produce.

The Supper Club will be hosted by Ashley Close, of The Rural Food Company, who has enjoyed a 16-year career after training under Michelin-starred chefs.

Emerson Court, operated by McCarthy and Stone off Carmel Road North, is a development of apartments exclusively for residents aged 55 and over and will open its doors from 1pm for other Darlington retirees.

Liz Green, regional sales and marketing director for McCarthy and Stone, said: “Our event is not only about bringing people together to celebrate harvest, but also a great opportunity to enjoy the wonderful tastes of autumn.

“As the seasons change, the crisp mornings and dark nights can also bring worries for some older homeowners.

"If you are an older person struggling to cope with the maintenance of your home, we would encourage you to pop along to our Harvest Supper Club – not only will it be a chance to enjoy the tastes of Yorkshire, but you’ll also be able to take a look around the development in a relaxed setting, and see how a positive move to a new Lifestyle Living apartment, could make all the difference this winter.”
