DAVE Penney has confirmed that Darlington flop Julian Joachim will be allowed to leave the club - but only at the right price.

The Quakers board are keen to recoup a large chunk of the club record £100,000 paid to Boston United 11 months ago.

But, after scoring just seven league goals for Darlington last season, the club will almost certainly have to reduce its asking price to any potential suitors.

Lincoln City and Grimsby Town have both been credited with an interest in the Boston-born striker, who has informed Darlington he wants to return south with his family.

Joachim was left out of last night's 2-0 friendly defeat against Sunderland at the Darlington Arena after pulling up with a groin problem in training.

"He would like to move south to be with his family, but at this moment in time he has two years left on his contract," said Penney.

"If somebody comes in with an acceptable bid then we will sit down with Julian and asses that situation.

"We don't want to keep people up here if they're not happy and if the board are happy with a bid for him then we'll look to let him move on.

"I think the board would like to recoup the majority of the fee they paid for him, and we're certainly not going to let him go for nothing. We paid good money for him, but for one reason or another he hasn't quite settled."

Alan White last night joined Darlington's list of defensive casualties after suffering a shin injury against the Black Cats. With Steve Foster, Patrick Collins and Tim Ryan sidelined, Penney will step up his efforts to bring in a central defender.
