THE owner of a dog that is alleged to have attacked and bitten another dog being walked nearby is being sought by police.

Two dog walkers were with their pets on a dirt track area behind West Park Academy, off Alderman Leach Drive, in the Faverdale area of Darlington, on the evening of Tuesday, August 29.

One of the dog walkers reported to police that a large dog – similar to a Newfoundland breed – was allowed to walk up to his dogs before biting one of them on its side, back and leg.

The injured dog required veterinary treatment.

The Newfoundland-type dog was being walked by a white female with long, blonde hair, believed to be in her 30s.

Following an appeal for information, a Darlington Police spokesman said: "At some point, the female's partner has been present and is believed to be called 'Ryan'.

"The dog is believed to be regularly walked around New Riggs Street in Darlington."

  • Witnesses or anyone with information on the incident or dog walker involved can contact Darlington Police via non-emergency number 101.
