A FUNDING boost inspired by Darlington shoppers will help a charity continue its life saving work.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) received a £500 donation from Asda recently.

The money will help the charity to continue its work rescuing the injured and airlifting them to hospitals across the region.

Shoppers at Asda nominated GNAAS to receive the donation via the supermarket’s green token scheme, which encourages customers and staff to support local causes by casting a vote with tokens received at the till.

Volunteer fundraiser Kay Roberts accepted a £500 cheque on behalf of GNAAS, which received the most votes over the course of the last three months.

Asda customer Ms Roberts nominated the charity for inclusion in the scheme and shared information about their work with staff.

A spokeswoman for Asda said: “This scheme is driven by local customers and colleagues through the nominations and through people like Kay – an enthusiastic fundraiser – taking the time to tell us about charities and causes they are passionate about.”
